Lotus will begin the production of this city car in 2013. That is what the chief executive(Dany Bahar) of Lotus said in an interview with a English car magazine. In the interview he also said that they will build the car with Proton and an other company and that the car will be introduced in October 2013. Proton is the Malaysian parent company of Lotus. In Malaysia Proton has a market share of thirty per cent. Dany Bahar thinks that they can get a bigger market share in the automotive industry by making this city car.
The show model of the new car was equipped with a 1.2-liter range extender motor and that was designed by Lotus itself. The Range extender is a generator for the electro motor of a serie-hybrid. The new Lotus car will not be produced in Great-Brittan. Lotus says that they will build three versions of the car. One for Asia, one for Europe and a version that is a lot faster. They will produce different cars in Asia and in Europe because the people who live in these continents are different from each other. So Lotus will produce a car that will suit the people in each continent. The faster version of the car will be for people who love the Lotus as a real sport car.
The production of the city car isn't at his peak because Lotus is also developing a new Esprit. When Lotus is done with the Esprit they will focus more on the city car. With the production of the new city car, Lotus wants to compete with other car brands that manufacture city cars and they want to have a bigger market share in the automotive industry.
